FYI, I’ve been posting all the motorsports news stuff I find noteworthy on the endlessusa.com blog / website / latest news section, whatever you wanna call it. I’d rather not be redundant so if you’re into those kind of posts, I’d suggest checking them out there, as you won’t see them on here anymore. Just realize that since it’s the corporate website, I’m not uncensored. Sure, it’s not as exciting to read, but deal with it.

I’m picky with the cars that I actually want to run our stickers. I’m proud of this one. Fontana Nissan has a huge crew with Grand Am lineage. They’re only running Time Attack for the rest of this year because, let’s face it, the economy has fucked us all in one way or another. I know I’m feeling the pain, that’s for sure. Next year they hope to run Grand Am again, but for now they have a full rig and TONS of crew to run a few time attack cars. It’s not as ridiculous as Sierra Sierra, but in my opinion, Fontana Nissan Racing is legit.

Went to the Home Depot center yesterday to check on Andrew Comrie-Picard and his car. He’s our main entrant in the Rally America series this year that is running our pads and fluid. ACP drives the NOS Energy EVO (in the right-hand corner of this pic) that did a front flip at last years X-Games.

This year they changed the layout of the tarmac portion of the course. I didn’t have a look inside the stadium to check on the gravel (dirt) portion, but I imagine they’ll at least keep the huge jump since people watching X-Games typically have shorter attention spans. Gotta keep them interested somehow I guess. In any case, there’s a fairly decent sized turn in the middle of the tarmac section that some drivers seemed to have issues with.

Here’s Andrew smoothly going around the outer corner. Most drivers tried sliding their cars around these corners, but I think because the corner is so long it’s actually faster to keep all four wheels planted. At least it was according to my watch (and Andrew’s pit crew’s watches).

Everything went smoothly yesterday and all seemed well ahead of this Sunday’s rally super special. This morning, however, we got a message from Andrew saying that the front pads we delivered were too thick, 25mm instead of 16mm. After realizing it was a goof on our end, I drove back out to Home Depot center to pick up the pads and have them machined down. Thanks to Justin, I found TSR Fabrication.

Mario’s a really cool guy and was able to help us out despite really thin time frames. On the wall in the back of his shop are tons of quotes that “make you think.” A couple of them really gave me a good impression of the guy, particularly “The bitterness of poor quality lingers long after the sweetness of LOW price is forgotten!”

An hour later, Mario had them all done. I was really impressed with the care he took in his work despite being pressed for time. He was very meticulous about everything which eased my mind about having the only front set of pads Andrew has for the entire weekend shaved down a total of 9mm.

Oh man. So awesome.

I think we’ve all seen it. A “fixed-up” car or two parked in some public lot with a bunch of guys standing around talking about car parts. I don’t know about you, but that imagery annoys me. And thus, I do everything in my power to try and avoid being a part of it. Being a “car guy” carries a certain stigma in my opinion. Or at least it does when it’s Japanese cars. You sort of expect guys to be standing around a GT3RS or a F430, whereas when you see guys standing around a G35 or a S2000, you can’t help but immediately think “ricer.”

I got home from my bicycle ride yesterday evening to find 3 dudes standing in the middle of the street I live on, one guy’s G35 on one side and another guy’s Z33 on the other. As I rode past, I overheard the following part of their conversation:

“I’ve been in a car with nitrous before. It’s like a switch and then it only comes on at full throttle.”
“Whoa. So you mean it’s not like it is in the movie?”
“No. That’s actually the really unsafe way to do it.”

I thought to myself, “Wow. Really?” So you mean it’s not like it is in the movie. Seriously? I immediately planned on sharing this with you folk, but then I contemplated what I just experienced a bit further and I remembered something I found amusing. I realized that I too had that same conversation with someone and was just as naive, albeit I was 17 at the time. But remembering that moment made me realize that I wanted to share how much of a ricer I was before. I was into the red Acura emblems, the air fresheners, the “hyper-white” bulbs, and RO_JA wheels (sorry arj). I literally had blue Street Glow neons on my car. It was SO bad that the bulbs weren’t even really hidden. You could see the bulbs screwed into the bottom of my sideskirts when looking at the side of my Integra. I wanted the AEM brake kit, had the AEM CAI V2, and to this day still have DC headers on my car. It’s the occasional reminder of “the dark era” in my life whenever I change my oil.

My point in mentioning this to all of you is this: Almost everyone starts out as a ricer, but that ricer has the potential to become someone extremely knowledgeable or even influential in this microcosm we call the “import industry.” All they have to do is be open to truly learning about the quality product that is out there. When I say truly learning, I’m talking about really understanding how a particular product works, not just its existence. On the same token, that ricer can also forever stay as they are and subsequently be the source of disdain for everyone else in the know.

It is my hope, dream even, that this blog and others like it will encourage, inspire and aid people to elevate and improve themselves with greater knowledge and its proper application. It is not enough to simply say that “product-X is the shit because it’s JDM,” because then you get people like this who don’t fully understand the message we’re trying to send. I believe that we have a duty to help others, and if you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem. Change the lives of ricers for the better. Truly educate and empower.

I thought about taking this blog down because I literally have nothing left to say. But then I checked the stats / comments for the first time in a while and realized there are some of you guys out there still reading this thing which, quite frankly, surprised the hell out of me.

So, I figure I’ll let you people that still read my ramblings determine the fate of this blog thing. Take it down, leave it up, what to write about if anything at all. I’ve literally got nothin’ left to say if left to my own devices. So unless someone comes up with something they wanna know more about, or hear more about, d.o.m. will go dark.

There was a moving sale for AME last month. Posted on a bunch of forums and stuff. Here’s a phone call conversation I had about 20 minutes ago:

Me: Uh.. June 14th to June 19th?
Caller: Yeah.
