Holy Jeebus

Sigh. What a day. Busy in every way possible and stressful. Haven’t had a day like today in quite some time.

Thankfully, I happened to see a vanity plate on an X5 which cheered me up. Well, that and the few different bottles of wine to choose from when I got home.

Not that any of you are interested, but I ended up opening a bottle of ‘05 Vilosell. It’s okay. Reminds me of a merlot in the sense that it’s more subtle in it’s flavor. I wonder if letting it breathe will do anything. Guess I’ll find out tomorrow.

For those of you still interested in cars, prep for Super Lap Battle is in full swing. Today, tires were mounted and dropped off to be shaved. Earlier this week, spring rates were changed, valving tweaked. Tomorrow, the coilovers go back in and the engine oil gets refreshed. Nismo tranny should arrive as well. My fingernails are slowly turning black again. Monday, Katsu over at HKS will take care of the tranny and ARMS tranny oil catch tank. Gonna fill it up with this stuff:

If you want some, you’d better ask us quick. Kent and I are completely clueless as to what we should set retail as. Might get to order some before we realize it should be sold $10 higher than what you got it for.

Caller: Yes, hi. Is this Endless?
Me: Yes.
Caller: Are you Zeal too?
Me: Yes.
Caller: Ok, great. I was wondering if I could get some information about overhauling my coilovers. Do you guys do that or do you send them to Zeal?
Me: … We do that. May I have your E-mail address?
Caller: Sure, it’s _______@yahoo.com
Me: Okay, got it. I’ll send the info right over.
Caller: Great. My friend ____ just got his done by you guys.
Me: Nice.
Caller: My coilovers aren’t Zeal though, they’re Stance. The problem with them is that the –
Me: Uh, sir?
Caller: bracket for the brake line has –
Me: Sir!
Caller: Yes?
Me: We only overhaul our ZEAL coilovers.
Caller: Oh.
Me: Typically manufacturers only overhaul their own coilovers.
Caller: So I’d need to call the manufacturer of these then?
Me: Yeah.
Caller: Oh. That’s how it works huh?
Me: That’s how it works.
Caller: Okay, well thanks.

What Gives?

“Dom, why don’t you post about car stuff anymore? All I see are these random Monkey Island whatever posts.”

Okay, so no one actually asked me that word for word, but for the past few weeks I’ve noticed that the majority of searches which lead people to my blog include the following:
“endless love s15″ (for the Super Boobs cover)
“dom automotive blog”
“d.o.m. endless usa blog”
“GTR brakes endless”

I think it’s kind of amusing to imagine people Googling that stuff, finding my blog, and reading that the Cannibals are complaining about LeChuck. Or, even better, reading the Bill & Ted joke.

But to address the question, my answer is…

I feel like I’ve said everything I want to. I’m done bitching. Well, mostly.

And let’s be honest. I’m no Jay Bryan, so I don’t post pics of clean cars in Japan. I’m no photographer, so I don’t post car pics I’ve taken. And I’m not on the NFS payroll, so I don’t post about each and every single event known to mankind. *ahem*

As of late, cars aren’t really on my mind outside of 9am to 5pm, Monday through Friday. And even then it’s pretty limited. Cars are simply a job to me these days, something I mentally turn off after the workday is over. Quite simply, nothing about the common “import car” excites me enough to write about it.

Sure, I watch Formula 1 religiously. Yes, I daydream about having a cushy euro daily driver and an exotic for weekend duty. But other than that, I couldn’t care less about a supposedly “awesome” tuned FD, Supra or Skyline . I’m not saying I’m better than the hobby or the people still enthusiastic about it. I’m just simply, as Jay would say, over it.

Truth be told, my priorities have changed. I wonder about how I’ll be able to someday afford a mortgage, not a new tranny. I think about what kitchenware will go with the furniture, not what color wheels go with the paint. I ponder landscaping my future backyard, not a future project car.

So, even though I have no obligation to, I apologize to those of you who look to this blog for automotive related reasons. Those posts have been few and far between.

You can expect it to stay that way.
