With the S15 safely delivered to HKS, it’s pet peeve time.
Everyone knows that Honda guys are douche bags by definition. Even though I daily a dc2, by no means am I a Honda “guy.” If you have a good head on your shoulders then chances are you know what I mean by Honda “guy” and can even think of a few examples.
One of the things Honda guys love is Spoon. Why? I dunno, cuz King Motorsports f’ed up Mugen in the US? *shrug* Bit overrated if you ask me. But I tip my hat to their US race efforts.
A message to Honda guys from Dom: If you choose to run Spoon calipers, use Endless pads. In case you haven’t noticed, that’s what Spoon Japan and Spoon USA (Opak) use. And not just for “JDM points” either, for performance.
With that in mind, you might take notice to the little tiny logo on the bottom right corner of the caliper. If you haven’t drawn the conclusions yourself, let me connect the dots for you: Weigh your Spoon caliper that Spoon has produced by Nissin. Hooray for excessive unsprung weight or in Logan’s words, “boat anchors.”
I have this OCD tick thing of automatically checking the part lists when I see a Honda in a mag. When the supposed “hardcore JDM enthusiast” has Spoon calipers, 99% of the time they run shitty pads like Hawk or, better yet, EBC. Way to go geniuses. Spend thousands of dollars on making your car as “JDM tyte” as possible, but when it comes to choosing pads, you run Hawk. Absolutely brilliant.
